Common Causes of Industrial Bolt Failure
Bolt failure often results from fatigue, hydrogen embrittlement, or improper installation, all of which can be mitigated through careful design.
Understanding the application
Fracture, fatigue, corrosion and thread damage can have different causes. Preserve the failed part and document where and how the joint operated.
Selection & technical considerations
Review load history, alignment, preload, material and coating together. A broken bolt alone does not identify whether design, manufacture or installation was responsible.
Practical checks before use
Use competent investigation and testing where needed. Replacing the part with a stronger-looking bolt can leave the original cause unresolved.
